CAMPAIGN DIARY: A dicky Finn, a cab and a bounder - what can you expect at a party?

Last Thursday, the cream of advertising - well, a few top nobs - turned up at Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters’ eighth birthday party on a houseboat at Westminster Boating Base. Unfortunately our host, Michael Finn, couldn’t drink because of a sudden attack of gastro-enteritis.

Last Thursday, the cream of advertising - well, a few top nobs -

turned up at Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters’ eighth birthday party on a

houseboat at Westminster Boating Base. Unfortunately our host, Michael

Finn, couldn’t drink because of a sudden attack of

gastro-enteritis.

Man of the night was the gallant John Ayling of Ayling & Associates

When one of our female hacks struggled to find a cab on the dark,

tree-lined street, we thought he was going over to reassure her. Alas,

no. He tried to nick her cab.

Luckily, the cab driver was more courteous. Our reporter offered Ayling

a lift, but he barked that he was going west, not north. Hope you

didn’t wait too long, John.
