Well done to Red Bull for scooping the prize of best
product/advertising campaign last Friday night at the 18 awards, the
UK’s anti-censorship bash. Although we agreed with most of the awards,
some did bemuse us.
Bearing in mind that these awards - which were sponsored by Smirnoff and
the usually staid Reuters interactive service, Cityscreen on Reuters -
were billed as the UK’s only Adult Entertainment Awards, we expected the
winners to be provocative, saucy even.
And when we saw the topless waitresses and naked men posing as statues
at the venue, we were even more sure we were in for a long night of
so-called ’adult entertainment’.
So Time Out (not the most sexy of titles) walking off with the award for
best magazine did seem strange. It managed to beat Private Eye, Loaded
(who we thought held the title for adult entertainment and smutty jokes)
and the Independent on Sunday.
Although the award was voted for by the public, it did make us chuckle
that one of the industry jury members was Dominic Wells, - Time Out’s
