Campaign Diary: Garry Lace weaves magic in education; Brian Blessed in shocking Saatchis outburst

The former adman Garry Lace has turned up running a school in Paignton and the results have, shall we say, been controversial.

Breaking news from south Devon where Garry Lace, formerly of the advertising parish, is making his presence felt. Having now reinvented himself as an educationalist the former chief executive of Grey London and Lowe London and managing director of Admedia and co-founder of Beta and marketing director at the English National Opera and founder of Three Little Things has acquired the Tower House School in Paignton. According to Devonlive, the school faces an "open revolt" from parents after hiking fees mid-term. According to the website, there are also revelations that teachers had not been paid on time and some were leaving. The school has been renamed the Element School, perhaps suggesting someone is in their element.

Saatchi & Saatchi’s annual "Family Dinner" event at Tate Modern for clients and friends was a livelier event than normal after Brian Blessed took to the stage and was reluctant to come off. After bellowing "Gordon’s Alive" (natch) he loudly told the Saatchis chairman Richard Huntington to "fuck off" as he tried to encourage him to return to his table. Well it has been a while since the eccentric old ham has been centre stage. And for Blessed too.

Snap Group, the operating company for Snapchat in the UK, is late filing its 2016 accounts to Companies House. It would be amusing if Evan Spiegel's vanishing message app company tried to claim that it did file the accounts but then they vanished after someone opened them. But Companies House does not do excuses. It levies a £150 fine for accounts that are one month late and £375 for between one and three months late.
