It seems that Gardens Illustrated is fast becoming the magazine to
appear in. This month’s edition carries a half-page ad for a certain
John Hegarty who offers a kitchen garden consultancy to anyone who wants
to grow their own vegetables.
Could it be that Bartle Bogle Hegarty’s chairman and executive creative
director is continuing to branch out in different directions even after
his agency’s deal with Leo Burnett?
Anyone who doubts his qualifications as a kitchen garden planner can
rest assured that he has ’experience of full organic production over the
last 20 years’.
Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO’s chairman, David Abbott, has also - yes,
really this time - made an appearance in the cult gardening title,
talking about how, with the help of a designer, he recreated a little
Venice in the garden of his Norfolk mill. The riverside property seems
to be popular with Abbott’s grandson, who wants to build a tree-house on
it.
Considering he’s going to have plenty of time to fulfill his grandson’s
wishes when he retires this week, his position on the editorial board of
Gardens Illustrated could come in handy. That’s what we call taking
gardening leave seriously.
