CAMPAIGN DIARY: Peperami man shows animal instincts on TV

One of the most enduring images of last year’s World Cup was the sight of the Peperami sausage running amok during Glenn Hoddle’s squad training.

One of the most enduring images of last year’s World Cup was the

sight of the Peperami sausage running amok during Glenn Hoddle’s squad

training.

But its appearance on They Think It’s All Over at the end of 1998 topped

even that display.

Peperami was the star of the slot where the celebrity guests have to

guess the identity of another mystery star by touch. After several

’feels’, the comedienne, Jo Brand, and her team captain, David Gower,

finally guessed correctly.

The BBC obviously cares more for the sausage than Channel 4. Last year,

when Peperami tried to gate-crash filming of the Big Breakfast by

attacking a large carrot in the show’s garden, it was promptly bundled

off the premises by quick-thinking security guards. How could they?
