CAMPAIGN DIARY: Viv develops her eye for an ad, eventually

We hadn’t seen any witty uses of the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal until, at last, we spotted this one on the back page of Sunday Business.

We hadn’t seen any witty uses of the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky

scandal until, at last, we spotted this one on the back page of Sunday

Business.

The ad makes a helpful suggestion to Lewinsky who, it seems, hasn’t

cleaned a stained black dress she was allegedly wearing during an

encounter with the US President.

Eagle-eyed anoraks at Campaign remembered that the same client, a

dry-cleaners in Soho, came up with a similar ad when Michael Atherton

was accused of tampering with a cricket ball in 1994. Its agency, Euro

RSCG Wnek Gosper, won a silver Campaign press award for it.

The Lewinsky ad was created by Billy Mawhinney and Matt Bartley but they

were actually inspired by the agency’s receptionist, Viv Parker, who has

been working at the offices for 21 years. Not bad for a first effort.
