At Emap On Air’s first birthday party, held at Heaven, the managing
director, Tom Toumazis, happily agreed to a head-to-head with George
Michaelides, allowing partygoers to decide ’which bubble needs
bursting’.
The stunt echoed the current campaign for Emap Radio’s Big City stations
in the North (see this week’s Direct section).
Partygoers - anonymously - nominated their choice for public
embarrassment.
In the end, an overwhelming number of punters voted to humiliate
Toumazis.
The real campaign from Mother, on which the stunt was based, used a
variety of ambient media, including stickers in urinals inviting men to
aim their, er, missiles, at either Liam or Noel Gallagher. Rumours that
partygoers used the same tactics to choose between Toumazis and
Michaelides are, hopefully, without foundation.
