CAMPAIGN DIARY:

The continuing saga of Hammersmith Bridge.

The continuing saga of Hammersmith Bridge.

No sooner do we bring you tidings of Andrew Robertson’s cross-Thames

transport horror (a rather wobbly 50cc Piaggio), than we hear the tale

of Graham Deakin, a fellow Barnes resident and head of account

management at APL.

Deakin thought he had outdone Robertson by plumping for the more

athletic mountain bike option. His first morning was spent merrily

cycling across the river, weaving his way through the buses (indeed,

overtaking Robertson at one point, it is claimed). After that very first

journey, however, having tied up his bike against a lamp-post, he found

that it had been half-inched when he came back for it.

Refusing to be beaten by some Abbott Mead upstart, Deakin has now put

plan B into action, which apparently involves dusting off his old

Ducati
