Those of you who have seen Young & Rubicam’s new ad to launch the Ford Puma are bound to know that Steve McQueen, who features as the film’s lead character, is dead. You would also have realised, therefore, that his drive through San Francisco was re-constructed from original Bullitt footage.

Those of you who have seen Young & Rubicam’s new ad to launch the

Ford Puma are bound to know that Steve McQueen, who features as the

film’s lead character, is dead. You would also have realised, therefore,

that his drive through San Francisco was re-constructed from original

Bullitt footage.



Sadly, a lookalike agency did not. A representative rang the Ford Puma

account team at Y&R to offer a Steve McQueen lookalike range. He

suggested supermarket openings and launch party appearances until the

account team stopped him and said thanks, but it hadn’t planned any.



Not be palmed off with a ’don’t call us’ dismissal, the person on the

phone enthused that he could definitely supply someone who looked more

like Steve McQueen than the guy Y&R used for the ad
