The UK internet service provider Freeserve has set up a partnership with the Bradford & Bingley building society to launch an online property channel and offer financial and mortgage advice. The global telecommunications company Cable & Wireless has given dollars

20 million to the European business accelerator Gorillapark. This is the

company’s first new-media investment and CWC will offer incubatees of

the accelerator its business-to-business products and services as part

of the deal.





The online advertising network DoubleClick is expanding, following the

recruitment of a new director of pan-European sales, as well as 13 other

staff. Simon Phillips joins the network to take charge of its sales

across Europe from The Economist, where he was the advertising sales

director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.





The music website iCrunch is to take banner advertising for the first

time and has set up a commercial department to deal with the new revenue

stream. Both BOL and Music365 have signed up to advertise on the

site.





Blackstar, which sells DVDs and videos online, has secured second-round

funding of pounds 6 million from Atlas Venture and Tarrant Venture. The

company is now valued at more than pounds 20 million.





A pan-European student portal soft launched last week, a result of a

merger between the German group Campus2Day and the UK company SOS

Student. E-Loft, which is backed by YAC, the UK unified messaging

service, and the night-club chain Luminar, will aim to encourage

students to develop their entrepreneurial ideas.





The internet portal Excite Europe has appointed Lorraine Thompson,

previously Burger King’s UK/Ireland marketing director, as its new

marketing director. Thompson will head the expansion of the Excite brand

in Germany, France, Spain, Sweden and Holland.





Lycos has signed a two-year pan-European content agreement with

Sports.com. From the end of the month, the two online providers will

team up to provide local sports coverage on Lycos sites in the UK,

France, Italy, Germany and Spain.





The e-mail permission-marketing group MyOffers.com has added a further

ten clients to its list, which already includes companies such as QXL

and Thomas Cook. Virgin Records, British Gas and Flutter.com are some of

the companies to have signed up to MyOffers.co.uk, which creates online

questionnaires for clients who sign up to take part in prize draws.





The online marketing agency Profero has appointed Mike Imrie as account

manager. Imrie was previously at MediaCom and MediaCom TMB. Profero

recently revealed plans to open four European offices by the end of the

year (Cam-paign, 7 July).





Done & Dusted, the music channel on the interactive broadcast network

Switch2.net, has acquired the internet broadcast rights for seven of the

biggest music festivals, including Creamfields in Dublin and Liverpool,

and MTV Ibiza. The digital broadcaster will be running event-based

marketing activity at the festivals.
