Antony Ellis, the managing director of the WPP-owned interactive media specialist Clever Media, has quit to become the chief executive of an e-commerce venture.
He will be replaced by Nicky Curran. She joined the agency as the client services director earlier this year, with responsibility for all account sectors including live events, video, interactive and design.
Ellis confirmed that he will become the chief executive of an e-commerce venture involving 'big joint venture partners', which has not yet been announced.
Commenting on his departure, Ellis said: 'It was a very hard decision to make. We turned Clever Media round from a loss-making business into a profit-maker.'
Ellis spent two and a half years as the managing director of Clever Media.
Before that he filled the same position at the design agency Cobalt.
Curran says there will be no management reshuffle in the wake of Ellis's departure, she will simply replace him as the managing director.
In a separate move, WPP last week announced plans to expand Enterprise IG with the establishment of a global brand engagement business headed by Brian Shepherd, previously the chief executive of Caribiner's International Communications Group. The business will be built around the existing assets of Clever Media and Banner McBride.
Clever Media was brought under its sister WPP group company Enterprise IG a year ago. 'It's an exciting time for Clever Media with this opportunity to expand Clever Media's offering globally,' Curran said.
Before she joined Clever Media, Curran worked at Caribiner. Before that she worked at MICE UK, where she directed projects including the pounds 2 million Macau Cultural Event.
Key clients on the Clever Media roster include Freeserve, Getronics, Nortel Networks and HSBC.
