Nearly 220 papers were entered into the Campaign Media Awards this year.
Not only a record, but nearly double the number of entries from any of the previous years. Given that people are only likely to enter with something that they are proud of, I think this is the best expression of the confidence that media people now have.
There truly is a belief that what we do is not only respected, but genuinely helps to make a difference to the routes that our clients now take.
All those years predicting 'our time will come' and it now seems that if it hasn't completely arrived, it is well and truly on its way.
Overall, the standard of the entries was very good. One or two categories suffered with a low number of entries but in general both quality and quantity were high.
Although there were one or two categories where there were obvious winners, the judges had a busy day dealing with the number of entries and then debating the differences between the very best. I would like to thank them for their time and diligence, as well as the fact that they all seemed to want to enjoy the process.
I suppose the ultimate test was that all of the judges saw work that they wished they or their companies had done. So congratulations to all of the entrants, all of the winners and the media industry in general.
On the evidence of these awards, our new-found confidence is well earned.
