Northcliffe Newspapers is the second-largest regional newspaper
publisher in the UK and has 25 publishing centres. The South West, South
East, East Midlands, East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, South Wales and
Scotland are Northcliffe’s dominant areas, which produce 641 newspaper
titles. Northcliffe Newspapers is the largest publisher of regional
dailies and produces more than 3 million newspapers in one day.
A new arm of Northcliffe is embracing the electronic age in order to
provide local news, services and information through the online world of
the Internet. Formed in mid-1997, Northcliffe Electronic Publishing is
driving Northcliffe’s newspaper titles to the cutting edge of the
Internet. Northcliffe is currently leading the regional press in
developing ’digital communities’, tailored to the needs of local people.
Seventeen online communities will be created in total, beginning with
one in Staffordshire, which was launched in February 1998.
The direct marketing division - Northcliffe Direct Distribution (NDD) -
is the fourth largest distributor of unaddressed items in the
NDD has the capacity to provide market coverage of up to 17 million
households, and offers a wide range of delivery options.
This year, Northcliffe Press - the contract print division - is
celebrating its tenth anniversary. Northcliffe Press is the largest
coldset print company in the UK, printing for many reputable publishers
including the Daily Mail, the Mail on Sunday, News International,
Johnston Press, Trinity Newspapers and the Racing Post.
Northcliffe Exhibitions provides creative solutions to clients searching
for new interactive strategies. This year, Northcliffe Exhibitions will
organise a unique Home Computer Show to tour eight of Northcliffe’s
major regional centres: Leicester, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Aberdeen,
Hull, Derby, Exeter and Swansea. This will provide a ’see, try and buy’
environment for regional and national suppliers. At the end of the year,
it will also run the Finest Wine and Food Show in conjunction with
Continual development throughout Northcliffe ensures that the group
strengthens its traditional publishing business as well as positioning
itself towards the electronic publishing future - Northcliffe continues
to lead the way in, and for, the regional communities it champions.
