Walsh Simmons, the direct marketing agency which recently rebranded

as an e-commerce entrepreneur, is preparing to launch a major retail

portal.

Bargains.com, which is part of the trend among web agencies to create

their own branches in cyberspace, will be launched by the end of the

month.

The portal will go head-to-head with online shopping directories such as

the recently launched Kelkoo.com and Asda’s Captain Valuemad.

According to Steve Walsh, the managing director of Walsh Simmons, the

company is in advanced talks with a number of big-name online

retailers.

The agency’s clients include the online car buying site Autobytel and

GUS.

Walsh said: ’The new service will offer much more choice than current

online directories,’ adding that he had been hanging on to the lucrative

domain name for the past four years.

’There is not one definitive online location where people can go to

search according to their interests, and which can provide everything

you need,’ Walsh claimed.

Walsh Simmons has already launched a series of online initiatives

including Minibreaks. com and Easycover.com.

The company’s international directory for hotel rooms, laterooms.co.uk,

has 3,000 hotels on its database and, according to Walsh, gets more than

9,000 page impressions a day.

The agency is planning to launch a marketing campaign for Bargains.com

in the second week of September, which it will create in-house.
