Cannes names 2004 jury presidents

The Cannes International Advertising Festival has chosen its jury presidents for next June's awards.

Piyush Pandey, Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai's group president and national creative director, will lead the film, press and outdoor juries.

MediaCom's worldwide chief executive, Alexander Schmidt-Vogel, will head the media jury, while Howard Draft, the chairman and chief executive of Draft Inc, will run the direct marketing jury.

Robert Greenberg, the chairman and chief creative officer of R/GA New York, completes the line-up and will lead the Cyber Lions jury.

Pandey has a high profile in both his native India and at the annual awards. He was a member of the 2002 film jury and last year his agency won five Lions.

He is the next in a long line of highly regarded film jury presidents.

Last year's jury was led by the Wieden & Kennedy founder Dan Wieden, who took over from Goodby Silverstein's Jeff Goodby. He was preceded by Marcello Serpa, the creative director of BBDO's Brazilian agency.

Schmidt-Vogel will be the first German to head a Cannes jury. Roger Hatchuel, the chairman of the festival, said: "His international media experience will be a real asset."

The direct marketing category was introduced two years ago. Last year's direct jury president was Wunderman's Daniel Morel.

Greenberg co-founded R/GA in 1977, specialising in print, TV and film production. The agency was recently relaunched as an interactive shop.
