Cannes Press jury rejects TBWA entry

TBWA\Paris, the winner of the 2005 Cannes Press Grand Prix and last year's Cannes Agency of the Year, is understood to have had one of its entries thrown out in the middle of this year's press judging.

The controversial spot is an ad for the dog-food brand Pedigree. The work, which promotes a biscuit to clean dogs' teeth, was thought not to have run as the judges were meeting. Rob McLennan, the executive creative director of JWT South Africa and one of the Press jurors, said: "The ad was withdrawn as it has not run in the legitimate timescale."

McLennan's fellow juror Joyce King Thomas, the chief creative officer at McCann Erickson New York, added that all of the Lion-winning ads were investigated and said that the jurors were not "picking on" TBWA\Paris in particular.

However, as Campaign went to press, the Cannes organisers stated that TBWA\Paris' Pedigree entry had been ruled legitimate.

TBWA\Paris scooped five other golds in the category.
