Cannes Week: Frontrunners for Film Grand Prix in short supply

No frontrunners are emerging to snatch the 2007 Film Grand Prix, according to jurors at this week's Cannes Festival.

The standard of work is so low that predicting a winner is difficult, according to the jury. One insider said nothing had "leapt out and grabbed them so far".

Some jurors consider "Evolution" for Dove by Ogilvy & Mather Toronto to be a contender, but there is some doubt about whether a viral film can scoop the top award. Similarly, Droga5's "tap water" campaign, which aims to convince people to order tap water in restaurants and donate the money they would have paid for the bottle to a charity, is being championed by some jury members. But, although the agency produced TV ads to back the initiative, there are doubts about whether such a campaign can be considered film in the strictest sense.
