Capital Radio given the go-ahead to acquire Choice FM

LONDON - Capital Radio has been given the green light by the Office of Fair Trading to acquire the London radio station Choice FM.

Choice broadcasts urban contemporary music on its two FM radio licences in London and operates a network of five digital radio licences covering London, Yorkshire, the Severn Estuary and North West and North East England.

Capital had acquired a 19% stake in Choice for £3.3m in 2001. Capital announced that it wished to acquire the remaining shares in November last year, prompting the OFT inquiry.

Capital's strategy and development director Nathalie Schwarz said: "We are delighted with the announcement from the OFT approving our acquisition of Choice. Choice is an excellent investment for Capital and one that complements our existing portfolio of stations in London. We believe that Choice has significant opportunities under its existing formats to grow its audience across London and the UK and look forward to announcing completion of the deal."
