Carlton puts European cinema ad plans on hold

LONDON - UK media group Carlton Communications has put plans to expand its cinema advertising business into mainland Europe on ice, following a breakdown in takeover talks with RMB International.

Belgian-owned media group RMB sells advertising in 17 European countries and was seen as a good fit for Carlton, which serves ads on more than 2,000 screens in the UK and Ireland.

RMB is believed to have pursued talks with a rival bidder instead and it is unlikely Carlton's interest will be revived.

Carlton is currently cash rich since its £1.45bn sale of film processing business Technicolor to Thomson Multimedia of France last year.
