Clear Channel Radio Sales (CCRS) is setting up a regional sales
operation based in Manchester to sell radio to national clients and
Jay Conroy, managing director of CCRS, is on the hunt for a head of
sales to run the Manchester outfit.
Once a sales chief is in place, a team will be assembled to sell Jazz FM
on a national basis as well as all CCRS stations, such as the Scottish
Beat FM, the Lincolnshire-based Lynx Radio Group and the Essex Radio
Although there is already a Jazz FM sales force in place in Manchester,
the team only sells at a local level.
David Goffin, commercial director at CCRS, told Media Business that the
new operation would target agencies and clients in Manchester - the
largest media centre outside London - Liverpool, Sheffield and
’A lot of business is emerging from Manchester-based agencies and their
clients but it is being overlooked by London-based sales houses,’ said
Goffin. ’Radio sales must be seen to have an onsite presence in order to
win that business.’
National advertisers based in Manchester include the supermarket chain
Morrisons - which is represented through CIA Media Solutions - and
Little Chef and Subaru, which are both handled by Carat-owned Feather
Both agencies are located in Manchester. MediaVest, MindShare and
Universal McCann also have offices in the city.
CCR’s decision to create a Manchester office follows moves by other
media owners. Capital Radio, Emap On Air, Opus and Chyrsalis all now
have sales operations based in the city.
