LONDON - Broadcaster Five has announced a restructuring plan that could result in a quarter of its staff being made redundant.

Channel Five to axe 25 per cent of its staff

Five has begun a consultancy period with staff and said that the changes could impact 87 of its 354 staff.

Proposed changes at the broadcaster which, in common with other TV companies, has seen its ad revenues fall dramatically, include the merger of on and off air marketing into a new creative unit and a merged legal and commercial affairs department.

Dawn Airey, the chair and chief executive of Five, said: ““We are clearly in the midst of one of the most difficult financial environments in history; Five has therefore taken the necessary step to review all operations to ensure we continue to work as effectively and efficiently as possible. “

“I am confident we are putting in place a new, streamlined structure which will ensure we remain the most agile and effective commercial broadcaster in the country. Unfortunately, the restructure raises the prospect of some positions being made redundant.”
