CHI kicks off global expansion plans

LONDON - Clemmow Hornby Inge is taking its first steps towards launching an international network as it plots the launch of a US office to service its Carphone Warehouse client in that market.

The agency is also looking at opening offices in other markets to service its Toyota client, which it handles, along with Carphone Warehouse, across Europe.

Carphone Warehouse, Europe's biggest mobile phone retailer, is setting up a joint venture with the US electronic retailer Best Buy, and will initially operate under the Best Buy brand. To date, the US retail market lacks an independent handset retailer, and is instead dominated by standalone stores branded by operators including T-Mobile, Cingular and Sprint.

Although plans are already underway, it is understood that CHI will only open its US venture if the Best Buy project is successful.
