Chris Tarrant backs new UK TV channel

A TV channel featuring classic comedians and backed by Chris Tarrant and the former Yahoo! Europe managing director Martina King is preparing to launch in January.

The Great British Television Channel will launch on Sky Digital, offering classic and new variety acts.

It will broadcast eight hours a day from 4pm and will showcase comedians including Joe Pasquale and Richard Digance, who is also a director of the channel. Brian Conley, a former ITV star, and the former Page 3 girl Linda Lusardi will both present shows.

The channel, which will carry advertising, will mix around 75 per cent of original commissions with imported vintage comedy from the US. It will initially share space on the Sky electronic programme guide with The Information Channel, which will broadcast in the hours not used by the GBTC.
