Chrysalis has shuffled its senior management in Manchester and
Newcastle following the defection of managing director Henry Owens to
Jim Hicks, 38, the managing director of Newcastle’s Galaxy North 105-106
is returning to Manchester’s Galaxy 102 as managing director of the
station. He replaces Owens, who is leaving the Chrysalis Group to join
Virgin Radio as programme director.
Galaxy North is left hunting for a new managing director.
Hicks joined the Chrysalis Group in December 1997 and had worked his way
up through programming at Emap’s Northern Aire FM and Magic 828 Leeds
He left the Manchester station as programme director at the end of last
year on hearing of his promotion to managing director for the launch of
Galaxy North, a post he took up in June.
’My main goal is to ensure that the station increases its impact in
Manchester’s crowded radio marketplace,’ said Hicks. ’Manchester is
becoming an extremely competitive market and we need to get much more
commercial than we are at the moment.’
