Church of England airs Christmas TV ad

- The Church of England is advertising on TV again this Christmas with a commercial aimed at enticing more worshippers to church over the festive period. The 30-second black and white ad, which broke last night, zooms around a church congregation to a jazz-funk version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Captions reveal failings in all of the worshippers - such as drink, jail and abortion - and the commercial ends with the line: "You don't have to be perfect to go to church this Christmas." Church leaders are understood to be keen to push the all-embracing message in a bid to both raise attendances and to pre-empt an expected advertising blitz in the UK by right wing Christian fundamentalists.
