Claydon Heeley Jones Mason has landed the through-the-line advertising task for the MCI WorldCom subsidiary, UUNET, after a four-way pitch against undisclosed agencies.
Previously, the account was held by BMP DDB, which picked it up three years ago through its now defunct direct marketing operation headed up by Stuart Archibald, Roddy Kerr and Arthur Parshotam. When the three departed in different months in 1998, the account lay dormant until this recent pitch. BMP did not repitch for the business.
Joe Clift, the marketing communications director for EMEA at UUNET, said: "CHJM won the pitch because the agency demonstrated a great combination of strategic insight and clarity of creative thinking. As a market leader in business internet solutions, we need a clear focus and an innovative, fully integrated approach."
CHJM's first task will be to widen the net on UUNET's existing direct marketing response strategy, and then improve and strengthen the brand values at every point of customer contact. The focus will largely be a business-to-business one, though with some consumer press ads planned. Direct marketing will provide the main bulk of the activity.
Nigel Jones, the joint chief executive of CHJM, said: "UUNET is a great brand, and tapping in to a company the size of MCI WorldCom is very exciting -- this could be the tip of the iceberg. A big reason for us winning the business is our experience working on technology and telecommunication brands such as Compaq, TeleWest and our dotcom clients."
