Close-Up: 24 hours with ... Jon Williams, Beattie McGuinness Bungay

Name: Jon Williams
Job: Head of digital creative, Beattie McGuinness Bungay
Professional mission: Agitate, educate, integrate
Personal mantra: Be comfortable with ambiguity

6.30am Bebebebebeeep. Get up to alarm, though the kids' elbows woke me up a while ago.

6.33am Let the dogs out - the new puppy hasn't quite found its, ahem, natural rhythm yet.

7.15am Get coffee from kiosk at station, cinnamon not chocolate.

7.18am Update Facebook profile with something witty and profound as wind whistles up platform.

7.21am Confirm freelance resource sourced on Facebook - why pay commission?

7.25am Get on train. Read The Times. Doze to Mahler on iPod.

8.50am At desk. Check what the Malaysians have been making overnight. Looks great. Over to the day shift for tweaks to the Flash.

10.00am Status with Nick, Eli and Martin. With more work than we can shake a stick at, my career progression from creative director to resource manager is complete.

10.30am Get revisions back from production company on ad-funded programming idea. Sounds good, but how can we spin it out to make it more inclusive? What does the coffee-table book look like? It might even work as a franchised cookery school. Hmmm.

12.00pm Financial planning - nod and smile, utter words "staff/cost ratio" a few times.

1.30pm Lunch with a mate at the Rock and Soul place. Pie, chips and gravy - you can take the man out of Manchester, but you can't ... It has to be said the mushy peas are shite, though.

2.35pm Facebook.

2.40pm Brief out some good old-fashioned black-and-white visuals. Lots of fuzzy edges here. Just the way it should be.

4.00pm Overhear Nick (Stewart) muttering something about Nietzsche and the insanity of crowds. I find it helps to keep my ageing brain active, working in a team with a planner.

5.05pm Review seating plan, desperately trying not to create a digital ghetto, as the idea is not to build a department, but to help make everyone more digital.

6.15pm Back on train. Read industry mags. E-mail/Fb/Twitter/scan blog feeds on 'Berry.

7.30pm Back home. Kiss wife. Read story to kids. Eat. Log fire. Sleeping dogs. Merlot. Sky+. Submit this article over Facebook. Bed. Sleep. Begin again.
