CNN staff face redundancy

US cable television company CNN is cutting a quarter of its workforce in a bid to cut costs caused by its internet business.

Up to 1,000 staff could lose their jobs as part of an on-going slump in the fortunes of global media companies. In the last week both News Corporation and the New York Times' digital divisions have slashed staff to save money.

NBC is also thought to be preparing a cull of employees as money leeches from its internet division.

Those working at CNN International, headquartered in London and one of the group's fastest-growing divisions, is thought to be affected.
