Co-operative half-price gammon ad pulled

LONDON - A TV ad featuring a promotional half-price offer on gammon at The Co-operative has been axed after it was found that the offer did not apply to all Co-op stores. banned banned

One viewer complained that the ad was misleading, as his local store was not participating in the offer.

Although the complainant’s local store was called the Co-op, it was actually separate from The Co-operative Group, thus excluding it from the promotional offer.

The Advertising Standards Authority noted that customers may not be aware of the difference between the two types of Co-op stores.

They also acknowledged that the ad did not specify that the offer was not available in all stores.

The ad was found to be misleading and consequently must not be broadcast again in its current form.
