Marquis joins COI's supervisory board with immediate effect, replacing Marilyn Baxter who announced her retirement after seven years last week.

He brings more than 30 years media and marketing experience to the government body, including eight years at ZenithOptimedia UK, where he stepped down as chairman in 2006.

According to a COI statement, Marquis’ role will include "challenging and assessing the impact of business decisions", and comes as government departments prepare to make up to 50% cuts in marketing spend this year.

Mark Lund, chief executive of COI, said he was "delighted" with Marquis' arrival, and highlighted his "insight" and "gravitas" in addition to his communications experience, "particularly of the evolving channel world", which he called "unparalleled".
