In a gentle nod to the changes in Culkin’s appearance since he starred in Home Alone, the ad sees regular meerkats Aleksandr and Sergei visit the child star, only to find "he’s much bigger in real life".
"Aleksandr and Sergei’s Family Road Trip" sees the meerkats go on a family day out to the fairground, taking 35-year-old Culkin as their surrogate offspring. After going on roller coasters, bouncy castles and eating ice cream, the pair take Culkin to the cinema.
It was created by Javier Romartinez and Stephen Misir at VCCP and directed by Dave Scanlon through Passion Pictures. MEC is handling the media.
The ad capitalises on the summer blockbuster season, with recent family releases including Finding Dory and Pete’s Dragon. Comparethemarket.com launched its two-for-one cinema ticket scheme last March.
The 40-second spot runs from tonight (July 8) on ITV at 7.30pm.
