Clear Channel International has drafted in Jay Conroy to replace

the chief executive of Katz UK, Simon Lynds, throwing into doubt the

future of the radio sales house’s senior management and its 25-strong

sales team.

Conroy, who arrives from the US this week, takes on the title of

managing director of CCI Radio sales.

Details of the Katz-CCI merger are about to be finalised. There has been

a depletion of senior management at Katz since last October, leaving the

commercial director David Goffin in charge of the sales team and its 80

clients.

An inside source said Goffin had already approached senior management

about leaving the company.

According to an agency source: ’ Morale is very low at Katz. Many of its

clients are uncertain about the changes as it is no longer an

independent sales outfit. The sales force could quit if CCI does not

resolve the situation.’

However, CCI representatives emphasised the importance of bringing the

new sales staff to the business and said that it would fight hard to

stop Katz from disbanding.

Jonathan Bass, development director at CCI, said: ’We are keen to get

Katz people into the building as soon as possible. It would be

short-sighted for sales staff to leave and miss a good career

development opportunity.’

The existing sales staff at CCI Radio Sales amount to a team of 40,

which includes the Katz sales team.

Conroy previously worked at CCI in the US, where he ran a group of CCI

stations in South Carolina.
