Controversy at Cannes

The 50th Cannes Advertising Festival was yesterday embroiled in controversy after the Grand Prix winner for print advertising was withdrawn amid allegations that it was a false ad.

The ad for a Portuguese bookstore, produced by Publicis-owned Leo Burnett, impressed the judges but the award for the ad was overturned after it emerged that it was not part of a full-blown media campaign.

Instead, TBWA took the Grand Prix print prize for a French campaign for PlayStation 2.
