Brian Byfield, the veteran commercials director, is relaunching his
production company, Brian Byfield Films, as Byfield Dwyer.
The new company will be run by Byfield with Jason Dwyer, his producer
for the past four years, who will represent Brian Byfield Films’ roster
of directors.
As well as scouting for talent in the UK, Dwyer is charged with
expanding the company’s profile internationally. An office in Sydney,
Australia is expected to be opened next year, followed almost
immediately by another office in Los Angeles.
The new company’s roster includes Byfield, Nick Wood, best known for the
’have none for the road’ anti-drink-driving TV campaign through DMB&B,
and the photographer, Kevin Summers, who created the acclaimed Levi
Strauss print campaign featuring jeans, jackets and shirts crafted in
materials such as wood and chrome. Summers is now directing some
commercials.
The company will also represent Johann Brisinger, who has directed spots
for BT and the Economist for Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, and has taken on
the former BMP DDB copywriter, Pete Lewtas, who has been directing in
the US for the past year. Lewtas’s best known ad in the UK is ’set the
juice loose’ for Maynard’s Fruit Gums.
Australian-born Dwyer began his career in Sydney before moving to London
in 1988. He started at Brian Byfield Films as a runner and quickly
worked his way up to become managing director and executive
producer.
Byfield said: ’The new company is really an award for Jason for coming
up from being a runner and making himself indispensable. The expansion
really evolved. It became obvious that this was the way the company
should go.’ Byfield Dwyer will represent a maximum of six directors -
more than that, Byfield believes, is ’unmanageable’.
