Craik Jones Watson Mitchell Voelkel has hired the award-winning creative team Vaughan Townsend and Nick Traest.

The team is joining the agency from KLP Euro RSCG, where their work for The Guardian picked up a gold award at the 2000 Royal Mail/DMA Awards.

The hiring of Townsend, a copywriter, and Traest, an art director, comes after new accounts wins for Craik Jones - including Foreign & Colonial, Barclays and Lunn Poly - towards the end of last year.

Before KLP Euro RSCG, the South African team worked in their native country at the Jupiter Drawing Room and TBWA Hunt Lascaris. They won several international awards while in South Africa, including two bronze Clios and a gold at the New York Festival.

With the appointment of Townsend and Traest, Craik Jones now has seven creative teams. The pair will work initially on the Royal Bank of Scotland and Dolphin Telecom.

Simon Kershaw, Craik Jones's creative director, said: 'Nick and Vaughan have that rare combination of creative ambition combined with a mature attitude and charming demeanour. I'm looking forward to giving them the next big, scary brief that comes in.'
