The team is joining the agency from KLP Euro RSCG, where their work for The Guardian picked up a Gold Award at the 2000 Royal Mail/DMA Awards.
Craik Jones has hired Townsend, a copywriter, and Traest, an art director, after winning several new accounts towards the end of last year including Foreign & Colonial, Barclays and Lunn Poly.

With the appointment of Townsend and Traest, Craik Jones now has seven creative teams. The pair will work initially on Royal Bank of Scotland and Dolphin Telecom.
Simon Kershaw, Craik Jones creative director, said: "Nick and Vaughan have that rare combination of fierce creative ambition combined with a mature attitude and charming demeanour. Importantly for these days, they've worked on every kind of business, in all flavours of media. I'm looking forward to giving them the next big, scary brief that comes in."
