Daily TV Marketplace - Weekend round-up

The last episode of the latest reality TV marathon, Hell's Kitchen, pulled in 7.4m viewers to witness former-soap star Jennifer Ellison emerge as top chef.

The show pulled in its third highest ratings for the 90-minute special edition on Sunday night, which saw Ellison beat off Gimme, Gimme, Gimme star James Dreyfus and former Bros singer Matt Goss for the celeb chef crown.

The show faced stuff competition from other channels last night, with BBC One’s hard-hitting drama-documentary commemorating D-Day from 8 to 10pm, bringing in 4.2 million viewers.

Sunday night’s edition of Big Brother on Channel 4 saw no improvement on the previous evening’s slump to 2.7 million viewers.

A strong night for ITV1 began with Coronation Street bringing in 9.4 million viewers and a 48.2% share, followed by 1960’s village cop drama Heartbeat clinching a 40.2% share and 8.4 million viewers.

Meanwhile, BBC One’s disturbing behind-the-scenes look at the town centre drinking culture kept 4.1 million viewers with the channel into the late night slot.

Clear loser in ratings last night was BBC Two with its Football Diaries failing again to clinch more than 1 million viewers, with much lauded US drama Kingdom Hospital taking in just 646,000 viewers at 10pm.

Five’s blockbuster movie, The General’s Daughter, starring John Travolta and Madeleine Stowe, managed to attract 2.1 million viewers and a 10.8% share.
