Bates UK has signed Deborah King, a board account director at Lowe

Lintas, to take charge of its showpiece Royal Mail account.

She joins next month and will succeed David Wood as the head of the

pounds 38 million account, the agency’s largest.

Wood is quitting the agency after ten years to become group marketing

director of the domain registration dotcom Netbenefit (Campaign, last

week).

Bates’ Royal Mail business encompasses a broad range of activity from

the promotion of social letters and business mail, to philatelic

services and the exploitation of direct mail as a medium.

King, who is 39, runs Lowe Lintas’s Johnson & Johnson business across

Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and also has responsibility for its

British Telecom and 3Com accounts.

Toby Hoare, the Bates group chief executive, said: ’Deborah has bags of

energy and real strategic ability.’
