Outdoor contractor JC Decaux is planning to sell ad space on a
series of internet-enabled public information kiosks in Sheffield.
The kiosks will be open 24 hours a day and will house a public payphone,
five advertising hoardings and a colour touch-screen.
Users will be able to access certain websites such as the BBC’s news and
weather pages and the online version of The Sheffield Star.
Sheffield City Council will use the booths to carry out vox pops, asking
users to comment on how the city centre could be improved.
Twenty-five of the kiosks will be set up in the city centre by 30 June,
and there are plans to install booths in the suburbs to ensure residents
from a wide catchment area have access to public information. The first
of the kiosks went live last week.
