Dell unveils viral football marketing campaign

LONDON - Dell has launched an online football game, to coincide with the World Cup, which will reward the most skillful goal scorers with prizes such as handhelds and discount vouchers.

'Dell Football Fever' can be played at and will offer incentives and prizes including Dell Axim handhelds, notebooks and discount vouchers that are redeemable against Dell products.

The aim of the game is for the player to score as many goals as possible in two minutes.

The player receives bonus points for more skillful shots and with a score of 750 or more, an e-voucher offering 20% off the Dell Axim handheld is given.

With a score of more than 1,500 points, the player gets a 30% discount on Dell Photo all-in-one printers.

The game will be promoted via direct marketing, press and online advertising, and will feature advertising boards behind the goal area, as with real football matches, which will rotate and promote Dell products and third-party vendors.

Aongus Hegarty, vice-president of marketing at Dell EMEA, said: "The Dell website is already an extremely popular online destination with thousands of unique hits daily.

"We want to capitalise on this and the World Cup hype by giving customers and non-customers alike an opportunity to have some fun, win some prizes and check out Dell's great portfolio of products, services, electronics and accessories."

In a daily prize draw throughout the duration of the promotion, players will be eligible to win a Dell Axim handheld and all entrants will be able to enter the grand prize draw for the new XPS notebook.
