Dennis has unveiled the details of its latest PC magazine (Media
Business, 19 June). The monthly title will be called PC Gear and is
scheduled to hit the newsstands in September.
The publishing group is producing two versions of the first issue: one
offering two CD-Roms and the other containing a DVD-Rom.
Dennis, which already publishes PC Pro and PC Zone, is aiming to reach
the ’PC generation’ of 18- to 35-year-olds who have grown up with a
computer in their home.
The title will have a younger editorial tone than any of Dennis’
existing computing magazines and will cover the internet, computer games
and related technology.
Helen Cribb, publisher of PC Zone, will oversee advertising sales while
PC Zone advertisement manager Mandy Hewitt takes on the ad manager role
for PC Gear.
Hewitt will continue to front sales for PC Zone. She will visit media
agencies over the next few weeks to discuss advertising
John Garewal, group ad manager of Dennis’s computer sales division, will
handle training and development for the title.
Cribb said: ’We are hoping to bring a new angle to computing. There is a
new role for the home PC with entertainment, leisure and creativity now
outstripping business use. PC Gear will address this market and will
break the mould of traditional computing and leisure magazines.’
Hewitt will name her advertising sales team over the next few weeks.
