The win is the first piece of government business for the agency, which won a place on the roster in 2016. Havas beat Ogilvy and three others to the post in the final shoot out.

The account is one of the government’s priorities this year and is planning to take a fresh approach to teacher recruitment. The first work is due to break in autumn.

The DfE has a target of taking on 35,000 people for teacher training every year, with a particular focus on STEM and languages.

The pitch process kicked off in March through the Crown Commercial Service. The account was previously handled by FCB Inferno, which did not repitch.

Mike Olson, head of marketing and communications at the Department for Education, said: "We look forward to working with Havas over the next three years to inspire more people into what is an unrivalled career through which you can make a real difference to people’s lives."
