DIARY: Advertising’s answer to Gallagher brothers embodies Oasis spirit

In the week that the nation has been following the strained relationship between Liam and Noel and the on-off status of Oasis, the Diary attempts to bring a little comfort. Our message to you is that the spirit of the Gallagher brothers will always live on - in advertising’s very own sibling duo, Maurice and Charles Saatchi.

In the week that the nation has been following the strained relationship

between Liam and Noel and the on-off status of Oasis, the Diary attempts

to bring a little comfort. Our message to you is that the spirit of the

Gallagher brothers will always live on - in advertising’s very own

sibling duo, Maurice and Charles Saatchi.

The Saatchis, like Liam and Noel, are also brothers who work (or used to

work) closely together in the same line of business and enjoy an often

fiery relationship.

They, too, have a North London connection. Just as Liam has set up a

love nest with Patsy in St John’s Wood, so Charles is often to be seen

frequenting the very same neighbourhood to visit his art gallery.

But there’s more. Besides the fact that both the Saatchis and the

Gallaghers are rich and have found success in their chosen professions,

their taste in cars is also eerily similar. Liam, the Sun reported

recently, has acquired a Rolls Royce, while Maurice has a Bentley (well,

they’re both big posh cars, aren’t they?).

We could go on...Liam and Noel have had numerous honours bestowed upon

them but, hey, Maurice has been made a Lord. Indeed, the fabled surname

of the musical brothers lives on in the owners of one of the Saatchis’

key accounts, Silk Cut.

Several Oasis songs could now even be effortlessly re-recorded by

Maurice and Charles. Our sources tell us the two are planning a cover of

the number one hit, Don’t Look Back in Anger, with special lyrics

referring to their inglorious exit from Charlotte Street.

So, toss aside those hankies and show a little loyalty to the profession

that pays your wages. Who cares if Liam and Noel carry on feuding -

hoorah for M&C.
