Diary: Ahoy landlubbers! Set sail for improved IAYR

Splice the mainbrace! Not only is the Inter-Agency Yacht Race about to stage a comeback, but with a new and improved formula.

Indeed, race organisers have already scuppered the old name. Apparently it was so yesterday, now that the glitzy world of corporate sponsorship has taken to the water.

So goodbye IAYR. It's time to pipe aboard the Advertising Brands and Communication Cup.

Two years ago, the race looked well and truly sunk. Numbers had dwindled as adland's old salts found the annual September dash across the Solent was getting just too much of a hassle to organise.

Now Ondeck, the charter events specialist, is taking matters in hand with a brief to broaden the race's appeal beyond the advertising agency community.

No matter that you don't know your stern from your pointed end, the company will even sort out a boat and a crew. All you landlubbers need is a cheque for £3,500, plus a further £500 for Helen & Douglas House, the race's adopted children's charity.
