Diary: AMV BBDO's suited and booted beat creatives

The grudge between creatives and suits is as old as advertising itself, and is generally accepted by agencies as a necessary evil, even if it remains hidden away from clients and the outside world.

Although this is clearly not the case at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, where it seems an air of competition between the two is positively encouraged.

Therefore, with their hearts pounding at the chance of being able to give their rivals a beating at football and secure a year's worth of gloating rights, a team of 11 suits lined up against 11 creatives in the ultimate grudge match.

The competitors' pulses (among other things) were sky high in anticipation of the troupe of cheerleaders bussed in to keep everyone's spirits high.

However, it was disappointment all round when the beauties failed to materialise, meaning they had to be replaced with a boom-box and a CD compilation of 80s songs - with Culture Club's Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? kicking things off. Not quite what the players had in mind, Diary thinks.

The disappointment soon evaporated, though, as the game got under way and turned into a scintillating affair.

The suits raced into a 3-0 lead at half-time, only for the creatives to claw their way back into it in the second half, before going down 5-4 to a dramatic last-minute penalty.
