Lesson one: approach creative directors Rob Fletcher and Dave Alexander

with extreme caution. ’If you do meet them and they seem aloof, rude and

moody, that’s just because they are.’



Lesson two: treat everybody around the place with courtesy and

respect.



’That way your stay will be more enjoyable and less likely to end with a

severe beating.’ Lesson three: don’t be afraid to talk to people, but

pick the right moment. ’The middle of a client meeting, for example, is

unlikely to be that moment.’



And if you really want to make an impression? ’Just put in a couple of

hours a day then piss off down the pub. If you don’t want to gain real

experience, learn anything, make any friends or come back.’



Banks Hoggins’ user friendliness is welcomed by Rhys Edwards, whose

placements have included spells at TBWA GGT Simons Palmer and AMV

Advance. ’Normally on your first day you really feel like you’re up the

creek without the steering gear. You’re expected to remember everything

in one hit.’



But Gerry Moira, the Publicis creative director, isn’t so sure. ’Nothing

beats a friendly arm around the shoulder,’ he huffs.
