Keen students of the junket will recall Beattie McGuinness Bungay's recent all-staffer to Las Vegas to celebrate the agency's second birthday, generosity surpassed only by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, which gave staff an extra week's holiday in perpetuity when it reached the quarter-of-a-century milestone a few years back.
Now Bartle Bogle Hegarty has weighed into the fray and has shaken off its work hard, work hard image, for a month at least, by taking the entire network - all 800 staff - to Miami for a weekend of excess to celebrate its 25th birthday.
That's the way the staff saw it, although a BBH spokesperson officially denied there was a shindig at all, and described the event as a "forward-looking" conference called Futurestock. Whatever.
Diary can report that the traditional wild agency birthday excesses were in no way dampened by either the conference sessions or a restraining order placed on staff: it appears BBH's insurance only covered staff when they were within the grounds of the hotel.
Such hardships were but a minor irritation, though, with a fancy-dress party on the Saturday night and a guest appearance by Blondie as the closing entertainment on the Sunday more than making up for the official lack of birthday celebration.
