DIARY: Big Jack bosses show at Nabs' football bash

Old footballers never die - they just live on a diet of great games and goals.

Jack Charlton has many games under a belt now expanded a few extra notches since picking up his 1966 World Cup winner medal. And the genial Geordie had a fund of tales to tell when he took the stage at last week's Nabs Celebrity Football World fundraiser.

It was all a bit overwhelming for Frank McLintock - the Double-winning Arsenal skipper was seen filling up as Big Jack described how he combined with "our kid" to set up one of England's goals on that memorable day.

Elsewhere, M&C Saatchi (the agency most likely to have the terrace anthem "Nobody loves us, we don't care") maintained its proud record for compulsive under-achievement by winning the football quiz. Mike Ironside, The Mail on Sunday's managing director, swelled Nabs' funds by £4,000 for the privilege of a full-page ad in Campaign. Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper's Brett Gosper bought tickets to Arsenal's next Champions League game.

But a year's membership for Stringfellows only fetched a grand. What's the matter with those media Johnnies? Time was when they'd have flogged their grannies for the company of Peter's babes.
