Diary: How Bob Stanners found inspiration down the pub

Diary was sad to learn of the passing of the former Leo Burnett copywriter Bob Stanners but tickled to hear some of the stories told about him by his creative director daughter, Kate.

Stanners senior thrived at a time when advertising was such a laid-back business as to be almost horizontal. He was a card-carrying member of the 11:01 club - named after the time that the creative department would retire to the pub each morning.

This appears not to have dulled his creative sparkle. It was after one particularly bibulous lunch that Stanners and his art director, Norman Icke, staggered back to the office to create the "Ooh-ah Daily Star" campaign.
