Diary: Call for Trunchpole's ID

Proving that social media isn't just for the young, the advertising legend Cornelius Trunchpole is now quickly amassing a huge friends list on Facebook.

If you're not familiar with him, he helped invent modern advertising and was behind 1936's "lazy amputee" ad for Heinz.

Or that's what his creator would have you believe, because Trunchpole isn't real - he's the figment of an adlander's imagination, but we at Campaign have no idea who it is ... will you rat him out?

While we're on the subject of social media, it appears that persistent overuse can actually be helpful as Tom Morton, the chief strategy officer at TBWA\London, has just landed a deal to write a book in the guise of his social media alter-ego, Dr Johnson (see this week's Twitterati).
